Product Review : Laneige Homme Active Water Sleeping Pack

Laneige is a major skincare brand from Korea promoting the notion of expert in water science and no doubt the brand campaign and product packaging is certainly very "waterful". Therefore, I guess no one is alien to this brand when there are many Laneige stores popping up in major shopping malls. Asian skincare brands have long came up with a plethora of facial masks and not to forget sleeping mask which is quite famous nowadays. Since I have tried the always best seller Laneige Water Sleeping Pack, it pique my interest when I saw there is a Laneige Homme series with a sleeping pack. I picked up this product when it was on sale in sasa hong kong without the chance to try the tester since the shop was packed full with beauty fanatics (including myself).

The product came in 100ml tube making it easy
to  dispense and convenient for travelling

According to the product description, It is supposed to be applied at the end after your night time skincare routine. I personally like the texture of the product because it is a transparent gel-jelly that can be spreaded out easily and evenly throughout my face. I am not sure of the usage quantity and frequency so I just made it my way all these while. Whenever I am feeling lazy, I don't use it but I try to abide with this additional skincare step every night. Immediately after applied, I can feel there is one cooling water layer on my face and it takes 1 minute or so for the mask to be completely absorbed. No any sticky feeling after that, a major plus point !

In the morning I always notice some brightening effect of my face (perhaps the AHA ingredient) and pores are tighter. Sebum secretion throughout the day is also lesser when I am using the mask the night before. But this is by no means a major breakthrough to solving my oily skin, I still have oily skin but it helped to hydrate my skin to reduce sebum secretion by a certain degree. I have a feeling that I have to apply some hydrating essence in order for this sleeping mask to act better (who knew).

When compared between the best seller Laneige Water Sleeping Mask and Homme Active Water Sleeping Pack, I prefer the former. The brightening and hydration effect is much more noticeable, in addition skin felt super plumped and firm after using it. Sebum secretion is much more controllable. In my opinion, no matter how i tried (adding more dosage), the Homme Sleeping Pack seems to be a little lacking when compared with Its best selling counterpart.

Product Review : Laneige Homme Active Water Emulsion

I got it together when I bought Laneige active water sleeping pack. Note, I bought it without the opportunity to test the product because the store was on sale and crowded... a value buy for such a large bottle... the pump bottle is so pretty and convenient to use... it was the last bottle on shelf...  (lets skip the excuses). Alright, I admit it... it was an impulse purchase.

Super like the pump packaging
The texture of this product is a silky milk-colored emulsion. I really like the dewy feeling after applied, but it may be a little too nourishing and oily for my oily skin. Therefore I've decided not to do much review on this product because clearly this product is not meant for my skin type, I cant really comment much. Nonetheless, I decided to test the product with water to better understand this product.

A simple experiment conducted on this product showing the solubility of emulsion in order to identify the oil content of this product. If you have oily skin and prefer oil-cut product or non-sticky after feel, the product should be able to dissolve in water after a few quick stir. For dry skin type which may require more hydration and moisture retaining performance, the product should be more difficult to dissolve in water or have some(little) lumps after a few stir.

(left) Little pearls formed when dropped a few drip of the emulsion. (right) Cloudy solution with small lumps after a quick swirl.

Note there are some small visible lumps after stiring, no wonder this feels oily on my skin. Fear not my friend... I need to mention that this product didn't work on me doesn't mean that it will not work on you, I just clear up the situation by explaining the nature of this product. Who knew that this might turn out to be the favorite of yours!

So, there it is, I can't forget this thought to myself, I should've tested the product before I bought it, if no I could've avoiding it sitting idle on my shelf and I would've save me a few bucks for bucks.
